Seaweed

The following samples have been made in a five-day intense workshop in Saaremaa Kõiguste, led by Kärt Ojavee, in which we learned to create algae based materials, extracting furcellaran and pigments from red seaweed. During the workshop a marine biologist Georg Martin held a lecture on the Baltic Sea and it's seaweed, telling us closely about it's current situation. We visited a local seaweed farm Pihtla and Est-Agar factory where furcellaran is extracted from seaweed and got acquainted with the local red seaweed production.
