Laura-Maria Vahimets (she/they, b. 1999) is a textile and visual artist from Estonia. She holds a BA degree in textile design from Estonian Academy of Arts (2023) and studied painting and textile art in Kunstuniversität Linz Austria (2020-2021). Curious about the substance of identity, migration and homelessness, she questions the role and function of the society nowadays. In her practice, she is interested in material development, working with both – old and new ways of material creation. She values working with natural materials, learning about their properties and letting their idiosyncrasies influence her process of work. Recently her interests have been on emphasising more-than-human life, working closely with these agents in her surrounding environments and hoping to bring new ways of seeing and existing with them to others as well. Vahimets has been exhibiting her works in Estonia, Latvia, Austria and recently in Reykjavik Iceland, where she was one of the residents of SÌM residency.
