Laura-Maria Vahimets (1999) is an artist and textile designer from Estonia. She holds a BA degree in textile design from Estonian Academy of Arts (2023, cum laude) and studied painting and textile art in University of Artistic and Industrial Design Linz, Austria. Curious about the substance of identity, migration and homelessness, she questions the role and function of the society nowadays. In her practice, she is interested in material development, working with both – old and new ways of material creation. She values working with natural materials, learning about their properties and letting their idiosyncrasies influence her process of work. Her recent interest has been working with biomaterials, using local resources for it. Vahimets has been exhibiting her works in Estonia and Austria and recently in Reykjavik Iceland, where she was one of the residents of SÌM residency.
